Board communiqués

Current communiqué: April 2024

Dear members,

On Friday, 19 April 2024 I chaired our Board meeting and I want to update you on matters we discussed. This is my summary of what we talked about.

We welcomed new interim CEO Steffen Faurby and said a sad goodbye to departing CEO Lee Whitney.

The Board has committed to the strengthening of our governance. We have demonstrated this through affirming director duties and behaviours and developing sound principles around Board and Executive reporting. You should expect to now see a very unified Board focusing on delivering improvements to our members.

Directors have reaffirmed commitments to:

  • demonstrate behavioural changes
  • live the values of the organisation
  • clear reporting lines between the Board and management, and to support the CEO in managing the organisation.

Commitment to these behaviours will be required of all new Board Directors commencing after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May 2024.

We then noted the Member Satisfaction Survey Results Action Plan which addresses current dissatisfaction within the membership, mostly around College responsiveness, and progress of College actions or commitments.

We expect to see improvements in some of these areas as a result of our IT Strategy which is already underway. The first part of this is the Training Management Platform which is now in the development phase.

Our audited financial reports were updated and approved by the Board on Tuesday, 16 April 2024.

The Board noted the Australian Medical Council (AMC) Re-Accreditation Assessment Week which starts in May 2024.

Professor Inam Haq, Executive General Manager (EGM) Education, Learning & Assessment and Libby Newton, Manager Education, Policy, Research & Evaluation briefed us regarding the AMC visit and noted the recent positive report into CPD Homes. Our thanks to Professor Martin Veysey and Louise Rigby, EGM Professional Practice for this work.

Directors discussed the College Wellbeing Strategy and noted the Member Health and Wellbeing Committee has already been working on some operational aspects of this strategy, with the College Policy and Advocacy Committee and the Dean also contributing.

We have invited the Chair of this committee to update the Board at our May meeting.

To strengthen the overall governance of the College, Directors will review our governance framework, and in consultation with members, craft a best practice framework and Constitutional refresh for the College going forward. The Board has committed to this cohesiveness and continuing good Board governance. We will keep you updated as we progress.

Kind regards,
Professor Jennifer Martin
RACP President-elect and Board Chair
